Common Principles for Effective Climate Finance
The draft principles for Effective Climate Finance were developed in July and August 2024 by a global community of practice of experts, practitioners, and policy-makers, starting first in conversation with actors at the local level.
They represent a collective reaffirmation of the Climate, Relief, Recovery and Peace Declaration one year on and emphasize the commitment to support finance and programming that is fit for purpose and fit for place.
The principles were drafted in collaboration between the ECCP Community of Practice, working groups of the COP28 CRRP Declaration Coordination Mechanism, and an informal donor group. The process around them is currently supported by the Coordination Mechanism. Questions can be directed to a.pearson@odi.org.

Join a consultation to provide redline feedback on the principles. The Coordination Mechanism will host two online consultations to solicit input and feedback on the draft principles:
Thursday 10 October - 16h00-17h30 CET
Wednesday 23 October - 15h00-16h30 CET
Each consultation will provide an overview of the draft principles and their rationale and create space in breakout rooms for discussion and feedback. Individuals, institutions, and organizations at the local, national, and international levels, as well as states can participate in the consultations and endorse the principles. All feedback must be received by midnight CET 29 October in order to be considered.
Endorse the principles. The final version of the principles will be circulated and open for formal endorsement on 1 November 2024, following the consultations. To be included in the formal launch, endorsements must be submitted by midnight CET 13 November 2024. The principles will be formally launched on 15 November 2024 during COP29.
We are in active conversation with the COP29 presidency about how the principles fit into the formal agenda on 15 November.
