Environment, Climate, Conflict, and Peace (ECCP)

Community Activities: 2025

  • Policy working groups.

Since 2022, this community has been home to a number of policy working groups. These groups come together to outline shared priorities in multilateral and/or national policy processes, draft shared policy priorities and recommendations, and plan joint action.

In 2025, the community has three policy working groups: Peace@COP30 (Climate Change), Peace@WCC (Biodiversity & Conservation), and Climate & Security (national security).

  • Connection and learning.

Over 2025, a number of activities will focus on fostering connection between members, as well as shared learning. This community was built on the philosophy that everyone has something to teach and something to learn, and further, the process of learning together helps to build relationships and trust.

See below for a calendar of online and in-person activities.

  • ECCP Community Fund.

For the first time, our community will introduce a modest Community Fund. Members will have the opportunity to propose ideas that align with the ECCP’s mission and certain ideas will receive modest funding. The goal of this fund is to support the work of community members, build capacity, and strengthen trust across the community.

More information on the community fund will be announced by the end of February 2025.

There are 3 different policy working groups active in the community this year.

Each group sets its own agenda and goals. Each group generally meets once per month. And each group has flexible membership — no sign-up required! Just come and go as you are able.

Here are the notes from our 2025 Policy Planning Meeting.

The three groups are:

  • Peace@COP30 - This group looks at multilateral climate change policy through the UNFCCC.

  • Peace@WCC - This group looks at multilateral biodiversity & conservation policy. In 2024, it looked at the CBD (Convention on Biodiversity). In 2025, it will look at the WCC, or the World Conservation Congress.

  • Climate and Security - This is a new group in 2025, and will explore national security processes in countries of interest to group members.

You can learn more about the historical work of ECCP’s policy working groups by clicking on the “Policy” tab in the top navigation of this website. Pages for these three groups will be developed over the course of 2025.

There are so many ways to meet each other and learn together.

2025 kicked off with a Community Action Planning Meeting. At that meeting, community members outlined their priorities for the year, which included building connections outside the ECCP, piloting different ways of coming together, meeting up in person, and a number of specific and concrete subtopics for collaborative exploration.

In 2025, we’ll:

  • Continue our tradition of ECCP Monthly Meetings, a space for open networking.

  • Facilitate a discussion groups (see below).

  • Host briefings on topics of interest to community members, featuring the expertise of community members.

  • Create space for artistic exchange (see our 25 February online art party!).

  • Try to meet up in person, in different regions around the world.

  • Map our community to see who is doing what, where.

  • And explore what types of outputs we might create together.

Information on how to join these efforts will be posted on this webpage regularly. You can bookmark or save this webpage and come back to look for updates on the calendar, as well as opportunities to get involved.

As of February, we have two active discussion groups:

  • Decolonization Discussion Group

  • USAID funding cuts debrief space

Information about meetings of these groups is visible on the calendar below. The community also aims to start a funding and/or climate finance discussion group later in the year.

In 2025, we’re introducing an ECCP Community Fund.

For the first time, our community will introduce a modest Community Fund. Members will have the opportunity to propose ideas that align with the ECCP’s mission and certain ideas will receive modest funding. Members will also have the opportunity to contribute to the fund. The goal of this fund is to support the work of community members, build capacity, and strengthen trust across the community.

More information on the community fund will be announced by the end of February 2025.

Interested in volunteering for the community?

Volunteers are welcome to engage on and lead the projects that interest them! In 2024, volunteers led the Peace@COP29 and conflict sensitivity working groups.

In 2025, volunteers are working on an effort to map out the community. We are also looking for volunteers to support:

  • Outreach to environment and climate organizations and actors

  • Planning for regional meet-ups

  • Internal community management and coordination
